NOTES:

Robert II was a distinguished citizen-soldier. He joined Captain’s Johnson’s Company at age 14 and by 20 he was a Major, commanding a Company in Second (Blue) Regiment that sailed from Boston 13 May 1707 and attacked the French Port Royale. The overall attack was unsuccessful and the senior officers of the regiment were censored, while Major Spurr was promoted to Lt Colonel by 1720 and Colonel in 1722 and 1724. He was a Selectman in Stoughton for 8 years, a Justice of the Peace for Suffolk County, and from 1720-24 was a deputy to the General Court of Massachusetts. His will provided his son Thomas with 3 ac of salt marsh in Dorchester, 40 ac of woodland, 2 ac of cedar swamp, and in Stoughton 11 ½ ac of meadow.
