NOTES:

Abram Lighthall is thought to have arrived at New York in 1698 as a young member of the staff of the newly appointed Governor, The Earl of Bellemont. Between 1700 and 1718 he served with one of the local militias, including being drummer in Colonel Richard Ingoldesby’s Company of Grenadiers in 1713. He arrived in Schenectady in 1719 and married Annatje van der Bogart, daughter of an important local Dutch family. In those days Schenectady was said to house 16 English and 100 Dutch families (farmers and fur traders) and 30 soldiers. Their first child was born in 1720, a girl named Anna or Annatje, although some sources identify their first child as Willem, born in 1722.
