NOTES:

PC Coates had a varied career. He earned his degree as a civil engineer at University of Toronto’s School of Practical Science in 1904. He then returned to Victoria and lived in the Marigold, Garden City district next to the John Abelson Coates house. He taught at Victoria High and rode his bicycle all the way to work. In August 1922 he became principal of Prince George High, then moved to teach at Princeton in 1924. In 1926, as Oliver was being opened for returning veterans, he bought a farm. In 1927 he moved to Oliver and developed his land into a successful fruit farm where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.
