Notes:
John Casper was a shoemaker who lived and died in Halifax. Several of his children moved to Guysborough, which was opening up as an English-oriented port opposed to the nearby, formerly French fortress and port of Louisburg.
His sons John and Christopher established J&C Jost store in Guysborough that continued there for about 200 years (later B & G Jost Ltd). Son Edward established Jost Mission in Halifax in 1866, now a series of Edward Jost Children’s Centres.
